Subject: Spanish Land Grab and other property issues in Spain
We have friends who have had a property built only to find out later that it is illegal. I know there are others out there. My friend has spoken to his MEP, who has asked for more details and also if there are any other people here in a similar situation who would like to send their details to add to the database. The more people who reply, the more likely it is that a solution can be forced upon the government of Spain.

Insurance Problem
I am insured with LaCaixa bank for building and contents insurance.
When I took out the insurance I asked the representative if my solar power and generator were insured and he replied yes.
However since a robbery where a fence was cut and a generator stolen, this is not a small generator it took 4 people to get it into place. We informed the Police who made a report and I took this to LaCaixa, the manager did all the phone calls for me and an assessor came the same day. The assessor told me everthing was in order and there had obviously been a burgarly. This generator was walled in on 2 sides and fenced on 1 side with a roof over the top. It has to be outside because it is air cooled and needs ventilation, it has 4 large rubber feet to stop vibration and insulation incase of a lightening strike. As we were worried that it might be stolen we welded a very large chain to the top of the chasis of the generator and bolted the other end to the wall for security. However the insurance company has refused to pay the claim as it was not bolted to the floor.
What I would like to know is if any other people out there has had a generator stolen which was not bolted down and put in a claim and been paid out.
I am currently speaking to a solicitor who is getting in touch with the ombudsman on my behalf.
Any information that I may aquire would be a massive help to me.

NO TO THE STONE QUARRY!!!!
NO A LA NOVA PEDRERA!
Barely 2 kilometres from our village between Camí de la Font de Tita and Camí de Les Comes, there are tests currently being conducted to discover whether or not the area is suitable for a stone quarry! Should it prove to be the case, then a stone quarry will be built in Perelló.
The ironic thing is that the quarry is to be located in the centre of a so called "protected area", an area in which people who have built homes are currently being pursued by the department of the environment because they are breaching the environmental guidelines! However these environmental considerations apparently magically disappear when a commercial enterprise decides they may want to exploit the resources of this supposedly protected zone. Perhaps nothing new here, the euro talks louder than the rules which others are expected to live by. But this is just the tip of the ice-berg. Consider the impact on the flora, fauna and agriculture of the area, the dusty access roads, heavy vehicle movement, the noise of heavy drilling and controlled explosions. Not to mention the impact on all those who live in or around Perelló. If one considers the altitude of the proposed site and factor in the direction of the prevailing north-east wind, the township of Perelló will be inevitably impacted by the fine dust generated by such activity! But only if this woefully misconceived project is allowed to proceed.
So we ask you to get involved, make your voice heard and sign this petition. We want local government and the town hall to understand that this is an outrageous proposal that flouts good sense and, more pointedly, the environmental zoning of the area.

some confusion about the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), the
little blue cards that used to be known as E111 forms. Here is a
brief guide to EHIC entitlements which should answer some of your
questions. Of course, if you still have doubts about EHIC use, you

Healthcare Team based at the British Consulates in Alicante and
Malaga.

A few other things to remember about EHICs:
- Residency in this
instance refers to your centre of interest. This can be defined by
where you spend most of your time, where you work or where you have
your main ties.
- EHICs offer access to treatment on
the same basis that health care is normally provided to nationals of
that State.
- Most EHICs issued by the UK are
sent to UK residents, and some of the letters that usually accompany a
UK resident’s EHIC have been sent to UK citizens living abroad.
The letters have now been adapted, and all cards issued in the future to
those living abroad should be catered towards an international
audience.
- If you are not eligible for a
European Health Insurance Card, it is advisable to take out private
health insurance when travelling abroad.

We are currently in recess as it is too hot in the summer but when we recommence 15 September we will be meeting in the Escola de Musica (Music School) in El Perelló with a resultant reduction in the contribution but as usual 3-5 pm Thursday.
LINE DANCING-We meet 3pm each Thursday for 2 hours of gentle exercise & chat. We have a proper teacher, Irene, who now helps us. We do count men amongst our number although we are mostly women. We contribute 3 Euros per person to cover costs.

A BIT OF ENGLISH ON THE RADIO.
“FROM MY POINT OF VIEW” on the Cala Radio 107.3
I don’t know if any other town or village in the Tarragona province has any sort of local radio programme broadcast in English. I suspect that no-one in other towns or villages in the Tarragona province knows that we have one here in l’Ametlla de Mar.
“From My Point of View” isn’t just a programme for the British or the English speaking ex pats. And it isn’t just in English. We are trying a bit of an experiment. We are trying to bring British people who live or visit here together with local people – be they Catalan or Spanish. And vice-versa. We try to take a look at various aspects of cultural activity and we try to see what similarities and differences there are when looked at from a British, a Catalan and a Spanish point of view. I try and keep some sort of order about the whole thing. So, hopefully, even if you only have a smattering of Catalan or Spanish, or if you are Catalan or Spanish and only have a smattering of English, you should be able to follow the general gist of each programme.
So far we have looked at choral singing – with the help of Tony the leader of “The Decibels”; a choir that sings mainly in English but that now sees itself as multinational. Vic, a British member of both The Decibels and the Ametlla choir, joined us in the studio with Joan Marc, a well known Ametlla musician, and Natalia, a local Catalan who has no music training and no fear about singing when she feels like it.
Football was fascinating. Although we had “Tío Jepus” an ex pro who once actually scored against his beloved Barcelona – the emphasis was on how the supporters view the whole theatre that is modern football. We talked from how we admire the magnificent skills on show through to how we despise the money that seems to swilling about within clubs, while fans have to fork out a relative fortune to follow their team.
“Gastronomy” – there’s got to be discussion here. “Chicken Tikka Masala” compared with “Seitó amb Amanida.” Then there is “The Press.” “The Health Service.” They have to be interesting in whatever language.
If you don’t live in l’Ametlla, you can listen online via the Town Hall website. (Google “l’ametlla de mar” then enter through “El Portal Oficial” and click on “La Cala Ràdio.”)
It is a new venture for us here in l’Ametlla de Mar and we need both input and feedback.
